Masters FNP Letter of Intent, Hospice, Spirituality

November 21, 2014

Your distinguished MSN Program at XXXX University is my first choice for graduate study to become a nurse practitioner because I want very much to attend a school with a solid spiritual foundation and ethos. My dedication to nursing as a spiritual activity, healing and care as an expression of love for one’s community and fellowman, all were very much reinforced by the recent loss of my mother to pancreatic cancer and the way in which we were helped by our pastor. I now appreciate to a fuller degree the way in which nursing care can benefit by spirituality, and the way in which my own spirituality makes me a more caring and attentive nurse, especially in my area, hospice.

My wife and two children are my support base for nursing school and will help me to succeed; all of us pulling together keeps me highly motivated. I crave being able to provide a higher level of care to my hospice patients and to better support their family members. I want to spend the rest of my life improving my ability to serve in hospice as an FNP family nurse practitioner. I started out professionally as a graphic designer but a friend of mine was a registered nurse and planted the seed in my mind about pursuing a career in nursing; soon I was giving my all to my studies towards the BSN. I hit the ground running and have never stopped, completing the prerequisites with an above average GPA, by the time that I found myself in nursing clinical, I fully realized the I had made the correct decision.

After graduation in 2010, I began working as a floor nurse and it was not long before I was promoted to charge nurse, responsible for the overall well being of 64 patients, overseeing the management of the floor nurses and CNA’s.  In this position, I was able to make contact with a lot of nurses who had already obtained their Master’s Degree, in addition to working closely with the nurse practitioner and medical director. It was also in this period that I realized that my special gift and passion lie in the care of older adults.  Heidi, the nurse practitioner, piqued my interest in going to graduate school and answered my questions with great patience and enthusiasm. After further reflection and research, I concluded that studying mainly online would not be for me since I thrive on face-to-face interaction.

The following year I accepted a position with XXXX Hospice, my current employer. Here as well, I have built a special rapport with the NP who has also encouraged me to return to school to become a nurse practitioner. I have a strong faith that XXXU will provide with the knowledge and experience needed to serve others utilizing the Christian beliefs that the university stands behind. I have grown enormously as a nurse and a human being over the past two years in hospice. I also note that XXU has a doctoral program in nursing practice that interests me very much as a more long term goal. Very much dedicated to lifelong learning, I hope to feed my special passion for geriatrics and hospice for many decades to come, devoting much of my professional life to research.

All too often, I see patient's pass away in pain even though we have given them all the medications we could give them. It is this area in which I seek to make my mark, the nurse’s contribution to death with dignity; over, above, and beyond anesthesia. I want to be part of the never-ending search for alternate methods to assist dying people so they may pass comfortably.

Your emphasis at XXU on the importance of spirituality is central to my strategy. I feel strongly that your program is the optimal springboard for the preparation of a hospice nurse practitioner who will be able to make his maximum contribution to the team, standing alongside the social workers and bereavement counselors in search of an ever smoother, more fulfilling passage forward to whence go we all.

I thank you for considering my application to your program.

Working together as a team we strive to create the best personal statement possible, to give you an advantage over other applicants to nursing school. I am an experienced professional who has read and edited thousands of  Personal Statements and Statements of Purpose. Most editing services only focus on the technical aspects of the statements: grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Instead, I consider the more important aspects; personal tone, flow, and content. Most importantly, I help you express your creative ideas with respect to your long term goals and your contribution to humanity and society. The final product of my editing may be the beginning of your professional success, a solid investment in your future.

I have been drafting statements on behalf of nurses now for the past 20 years. Writing statements is not always fun, and the older I get the more mental and emotional energy it takes for me to do a good job. This is one of the reasons why I have developed a priority focus on nurses, writing more statements in this area than any other, because I admire the dedication of nurses, their orientation of service and giving. Nurses are generally among the finest people on the planet, on human and emotional levels, because of their ethic of service. Thus, when I help a nurse succeed, I am inspired by her/his story.

I have spent many years investigating what makes a Statement for admission to nursing school as effective as possible, what programs and institutions in the area of nursing are looking for in applicants: specific qualities, interests, and characteristics--all of which I will emphasize in your essay. Character is especially critical and I am an expert at making you look exceptional. It is all in the wording and I like to think I have a natural gift for statement expression. My own special strength is in the emotional eloquence of nursing. I admit that on a few occasions, tears well up in my eyes while writing a statement for nursing school; it is a most enriching experience and I count myself most privileged.
