BSN Nursing, Latina Nurse, Diversity, Clinical Care

November 20, 2014

I am a woman of mixed Indian and Mexican heritage, born and raised in California. I hold Bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and also in English with Emphasis on Education. I speak English, Spanish and a little French, I am currently learning Malayalam, a language spoken in south India. I am a trained ‘Water Safety Instructor’.

From an early age I spent time in hospitals visiting my younger brother who suffered from diabetes and who was frequently hospitalized as was my mother who suffered from kidney problems. Young as I was, I recognized that some of the nurses, though efficient, were merely doing a job but others were doing something more. Some of the nursing staff took a little time to show personal kindness towards patients and visitors and seemed to understand how we were feeling and how much a friendly word and a smile meant to us. I want to become one of the ‘smiling’ nurses who will also remember every day what it was like to be a little child taking in the strange, and slightly frightening, environment of a hospital.

Having graduated, I decided to seek employment involving the improvement of the lives of those living in south Asia.  I began work for a non-profit company called The Sri Lankan Trade and Information Office. The company’s main purpose is to improve the infrastructure in Sri Lanka with a current emphasis on building hospitals in the areas most affected by the recent civil war. I have gained an insight into the problems of providing healthcare and health education in impoverished areas and am grateful to have been able to assist in improving this situation to some small degree.

I am a volunteer Clinical Care Extender at the St. John Regional Medical Center. I have shadowed and assisted nurses in various departments. I have been involved in providing direct patient care and have gained an insight into the background work of health professionals. This experience has convinced me that nursing is my calling and I am determined to pursue it.

It was always my intention to use my working life to help others and now wish to do so in the personal and direct way that nursing involves. I believe that I have those qualities necessary to be a very successful nursing practitioner.  I am considered to be organized, mature and, most importantly, compassionate, I also enjoy working as part of a team and have excellent observational skills. I know that very hard work, enthusiasm and determination will be required of a successful applicant for the program and am confident that I can meet these requirements in full.

My personal ethnic mix is quite unusual and exposed me from my earliest years to two quite diverse cultures. Although I have never lived abroad, I have visited India, Mexico and also Spain as part of the work towards my language degree. I consider myself to be exceptionally culturally aware and sensitive to cultural differences. I have no problem whatever in relating well to others whatever their background or ethnic origin.

I am particularly interested in the areas of health education and preventative medicine. It is my ambition to work as a nurse in the third world providing health information and education in order to spread basic knowledge and consequent well being as widely as possible and consequently be of benefit to as many people as possible.

I am aware that there will be many well qualified applicants for the program but genuinely believe that I possess the personal qualities, motivation, determination and passion to excel in it and to become an asset my class, the college and ultimately the nursing profession.

Thank you for considering my application for the BSN program.

Working together as a team we strive to create the best personal statement possible, to give you an advantage over other applicants to nursing school. I am an experienced professional who has read and edited thousands of  Personal Statements and Statements of Purpose. Most editing services only focus on the technical aspects of the statements: grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Instead, I consider the more important aspects; personal tone, flow, and content. Most importantly, I help you express your creative ideas with respect to your long term goals and your contribution to humanity and society. The final product of my editing may be the beginning of your professional success, a solid investment in your future.

I have been drafting statements on behalf of nurses now for the past 20 years. Writing statements is not always fun, and the older I get the more mental and emotional energy it takes for me to do a good job. This is one of the reasons why I have developed a priority focus on nurses, writing more statements in this area than any other, because I admire the dedication of nurses, their orientation of service and giving. Nurses are generally among the finest people on the planet, on human and emotional levels, because of their ethic of service. Thus, when I help a nurse succeed, I am inspired by her/his story.

I have spent many years investigating what makes a Statement for admission to nursing school as effective as possible, what programs and institutions in the area of nursing are looking for in applicants: specific qualities, interests, and characteristics--all of which I will emphasize in your essay. Character is especially critical and I am an expert at making you look exceptional. It is all in the wording and I like to think I have a natural gift for statement expression. My own special strength is in the emotional eloquence of nursing. I admit that on a few occasions, tears well up in my eyes while writing a statement for nursing school; it is a most enriching experience and I count myself most privileged.
